Only Rebbe Nachman’s advice can rectify this generation

THIS GENERATION CAN ONLY BE RECTIFIED BY REBBE NACHMAN’S LIGHT

Translated excerpt of a shiur that Rav Eliezer Berland, shlita, gave at an outreach conference in Netanya, in the year 2000 (taken from ‘Hithadshut Magazine, Issue 12, Shvat 5777’).

The Gli Razia [1] said that until the year 5760 (2000) is the rectification of the world, and the rectification of the 974 generations [2] (that preceded creation).

For, there are souls that are born completely righteous (Tzaddikim). There are souls like Rebbe Nachman, who are completely without sin, who never once sinned. Holy and pure Tzaddikim, who served Hashem day and night, who guarded their eyes, and never once paid attention to the material world.

After that, there are the ‘regular’ souls, the souls who are average, or in-between [not completely righteous or completely wicked]. After these in-between souls, the wicked souls begin, and each one needs a spiritual rectification.

The Gli Razia says that the rectification of these souls will continue until 5760 (which may also be understood to include 5761 too), which is the time the wicked souls will need to be rectified.

After 5760, all those who didn’t wake up and do teshuva, who didn’t see the Divine light, who didn’t see the light of Hashem, who didn’t feel the pleasantness of Hashem, who didn’t taste the nectar of Hashem…

The Gli Razia wrote his book more than 460 years’ ago [now, in 2017, more than 480 years’ ago]. He foresaw some very serious things, he was one of the prophetic figures of that generation, and he saw what would be happening in another 460 years.

AFTER 5760 A TERRIBLE SPIRIT OF TUMAH WILL DESCEND TO THE WORLD

He said that all these evildoers, that we see today running wild, prattling away, all these preening ‘black roosters’, their rectification will only last until 5760. And after 5760, such an enormous spirit of tumah (spiritual impurity) will descend to the world, such a terrible tumah will come down to the world.

Only until 5760 will there be a rectification for these reincarnations, after this there will be ‘many years’ (רב שנים) – which has the same gematria as ‘Amalek’, = 240. Amalekite souls, mamash, will come to the world, because from 5760 until the end of that decade, there is ‘many years’, which is the gematria of Amalek.

And so, these Amalekite-type souls will come, people who are impossible to talk to. They will say: ‘We need to kill the datiim (religious people)…’ – they are submerged in their lusts and desires from the tips of their toes all the way up to their heads.

All these souls that come after 5760, their only hope of being rectified is via the Divine light that Rebbe Nachman revealed more than 200 years ago. He taught that these generations would come, that no other advice would be able to help. He said more than 200 years ago that a flood would come to the world, that would ‘cover the tops of even the highest mountains’.

CHILDREN WILL RUN AFTER THE CULTURE OF THE STREETS

It will sweep over all of the mountains – this is referring to all the Tzaddikim, even the children of the Tzaddikim will be destroyed by it. It will be impossible to stop the children. The children will run after the culture of the streets, after all the madness. There won’t be any way to stop them from doing this.

Rebbe Nachman said: generations are coming that no advice will be able to help, if we don’t start to reveal this light already from today, to reveal this hidden light already, today. We need to take this light from the realm of potential to the realm of actual.

There really will come generations where you won’t be able to say a single word to them, to help them. You will talk to your children, you will talk to people, and they won’t have any idea what you’re even trying to say. And it is here, where such a light will come, where we will need to reveal such a new light.

And this is what Rebbe Nachman is explaining to us, in Lesson 37 (of Likutey Moharan), that now we need to start to reveal a completely new light to the world: ‘A new light will be shone on Zion, and all of us will soon merit to His light.’

THERE IS ONLY ONE LIGHT LEFT

For there is only one light, there will be only one escape hatch left, one remaining ray of light, and if we manage to open this one porthole, and if we merit to uncover this escape hatch, and to show [people] the way to it…It’s only via this one porthole that people will be able to accept anyone else’s words, and to be persuaded of anything, and to accept the Godly light.

This is what Rebbe Nachman is explaining to us, that right now the lusts are only gaining in strength and overpowering us from one moment to the next. These lusts are so dreadful – all the gadgets, the computers, the internet, all the different programs – if you press on a button, a person can find themselves in the lowest depths of hell, or even lower, that his father or grandfather couldn’t even conceive of there being such a thing. And no-one else ever dreamed that such things could ever exist before today.

Just by pressing one small button when his father isn’t home, a child can just press some button – and it’s all over! He falls into oblivion! To the deepest depths! To such a low place, that who knows if he can ever come out of it again? And who can even pull him out of that place?

His father has no idea why his son’s spiritual yearnings suddenly got so destroyed. He doesn’t understand that he bought a computer with access to the internet, and he didn’t keep it protected. There are many programs you can use to protect your computer.

Suddenly, in one fell swoop in 5760 (2000), we’re seeing all these different types of spiritual impurity blowing across the world, that no-one is able to stop. That’s why Lesson 37 (of Likutey Moharan) was written. Lesson 37 was written to subdue this dreadful force of spiritual impurity, which is the secret of the kruvim (cherubim)… reviving the whole situation that was found at the time of yetziat Mitzrayim (leaving Egypt). We are starting it all again.

THE 49 GATES OF IMPURITY

In Egypt, Am Yisrael was sunk in the 49 gates of impurity, and worshiped all the different types of idols, and there was no spiritual impurity that Am Yisrael wasn’t somehow in the middle of. They went right up to the 50th gate…

And now, only Rebbe Nachman can get them out of there. No other advice can do it. And they were already on the verge of falling into the 50th gate, and they were about to start sinning with the non-Jews [3], G-d forbid, so Hashem immediately took them out.

And now, we’re talking about a completely new stage, a completely new light, a new light will be shining on Zion.

A person has a yetzer hara (evil inclination) raging inside him. He could be a ‘true’ Chassid, with payot down to the floor, and his yetzer hara is still running wild. He has no idea how to subdue it and he has no idea what to do.

It didn’t used to be like this. Today, even children are seeing the most awful things. Hashem should have mercy. Hashem should have mercy. And who can stop them, if we don’t give them the real light, the light of Hashem?

It’s like Avraham Avinu, who was born into the most immoral generation. He was born into the most spiritually-impure generation, with Nimrod the rasha (evildoer) – the height of spiritual impurity. And Avraham Avinu was just one person, and he smashed all the idols, he wasn’t scared of anything. Even though he was just one person, and by himself, he still broke all of the idols…

His father said to him: ‘Avrama’leh, are you trying to tell me that you are smarter than everyone else? That you’re the smartest person in the world?! That there aren’t any other wise people in the world? That you’re wiser than Nimrod. We’ve been serving idols and worshipping idols here for 1700 years, already, but you’re smarter than everyone else, and you’re going over to a new system?!’

EVERYTHING’S COLLAPSING!

But Avrama’leh said: ‘Abba’leh, where’s your brains?’ Terach responded: ‘Could it really be that the whole world [has been wrong about] serving idols for 1700 years?! Ok, yes once there was a big flood, there was a big cloudburst, I don’t know what. It’s true that not everything went so smoothly all the time. It’s also true that once the Tower of Babel fell down – there was some sort of engineering error, I don’t know what, and the Tower fell down…’

Avraham said to him: ‘Can’t you see what’s going on?! Open your eyes! Everything’s collapsing! The world’s collapsing!’ There’s not going to be any world left.

We see that every second, the earth is crumbling under our feet. Open your eyes! A person can see that the earth is crumbling. Here, someone’s son dies, there someone’s wife passes away, here it’s the husband. And yet people continue to contaminate their eyes! They don’t understand that it’s their own sins that are killing their wives, and their husbands, and their children.

This is what Rabbenu revealed to us, in Lesson 37. And this is the key for how to help these generations, the generations from 5760 onwards, these awful generations that are starting to come to the world, generations that their fathers never imagined or envisioned, and that their ancestors never saw before in their lives, except maybe only at the time of the mabbul (flood).

[2] In the 2000 years before the creation of our world, the Gemara explains that Hashem created another 974 different worlds that were all destroyed before our present world was created, because they refused to keep the Torah. The souls from these 974 generations are referred to as the ‘brazen ones’ in each generation, and are often connected with the Erev Rav. A Formula to Help Your Friend \ Pirkei Avot

A Formula to Help Your Friend \ Pirkei Avot

D'var Torah: "Shamai said, 'Offer a little help and do a lot.'" Often people promise they will do a lot to help their friend in time of need. Yet, despite their assurances and good intentions, they end up doing very little. Shamai taught that it is best to make a modest promise to provide help for your friend. Ultimately, when your friend needs your support, do a great deal more than you originally promised. For example, when the three desert travelers came to Avraham Avinu, he told them, "I will serve you a little bread to eat." Yet, ultimately, he served them a sumptuous banquet.

Moral: When we offer to help others, it is appropriate to first express ourselves with humility and graciousness, and then actively help them with as much kindness as we can.

Application: Envision the kindness and gentleness of Avraham, offering to share a little  bread with the desert travelers. Sense how he welcomes them with care, sensitivity, and love. See him provide them with a sumptuous meal, personally serving them with kindness, warmth and compassion. Speak modestly when you volunteer to help others, and help them with the maximum effort you can make.

Devekut with HaShem

Ribono Shel Olam “Even if the only thing you can say in your Hitbodedut is Ribono Shel Olam! Master of the World, this is also very good”.
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.

Love in Judaism is unity with HaShem.

Love in mundane world (Nations) is related to sex, personal pleasures, advertising to get sympathy or sell millions of albums in their songs.

Pure Love is attached to the Tzadik, the source that comes from Holy One.

Essence of Love

In my essence, I always believe in the love, yet we are separated in other country. Nowadays, is very difficult to believe in true love because people do not listen to HaShem.

The fear to be disappointed with a new “true love” is equal to the emptiness and frustration that the person finds in the social networks, is a street that the person already knows where it will give. There is a special person to meet in this life, do not see with your eyes, but feel with your heart the message of the Most High.

Only with true Emunah and Prayers will a new love appear to live a true life, God willing.

“You must respect and honor your wife”. Rabbi Nachman (Sichot Haran#264)

Revelation

The main thing is to nullify every one of your personality traits. You must strive to do so until you have totally obliterated your ego, rendering it into absolute nothingness before God. Begin with one trait and annihilate it completely. Then
work on your other traits, one at a time, until they are totally nonexistent. As you nullify your own personality, God’s glory will begin to shine through and be revealed.

It is written, “And the earth was alight with His glory” (Ezekiel 43:2). God’s glory is like light. The larger an object, the greater its shadow. A thin rod casts a very small shadow, while a more substantial object casts a larger shadow. A great
building will cast a still larger shadow. As more light is obstructed, a greater shadow is cast. The same is true of God’s glory. The material obstructs the spiritual and casts a shadow. The denser an object, the deeper a shadow it will cast.

When you are bound to an emotion or desire, it obstructs God’s glory and casts a shadow. God’s light is then hidden from you. But as you nullify these emotions and desires, you also remove this shadow. And as the shadow departs, the light of God’s glory is revealed. When a man is worthy of annihilating the shadow completely and making it into absolute nothingness, then God’s glory is revealed to all the earth. There is no obstructing shadow, and the light can shine through in all its glory.

The Power of a Mother's Prayer \ The Secret of Rav Shimon bar Yochai

The Power of a Mother's Prayer \ The Secret of Rav Shimon bar Yochai

D'var Torah: Yochai was married for many years to a wonderful wife. Yet, sadly, his wife did not bear any children. With tears in his eyes, he asked her to accept a divorce, so that he could marry a woman who might bear him children. Yochai's wife asked him to let her try for one more year to have a child. Yochai agreed to her request.

With unshakeable trust in HaShem, a broken heart, and countless tears she prayed for a miracle, "Please HaShem, have mercy on us and bless us with a son."

One night, Yochai dreamt that he was in a forest of dry and leafless trees. Each tree was watered with a cup of water, and immediately the tree sprouted to life. Soon he came to his tree, which was next to a barrel of water.  The barrel poured water on to the tree, and it blossomed with leaves and fruits.

He related the dream to a sage and asked him its meaning. The sage told him that he would have a great son who would illuminate the world. Yochai asked him why the other trees had a cup, while his tree had a barrel of water. The sage answered, "The barrel of water symbolizes the overflowing tears of your wife."

MORAL: Faith in HaShem and heartfelt prayer with many tears has the power to convert darkness to light, heal every illness, and transform hardship into joy.

APPLICATION: Pray to HaShem with all of your heart and soul, and trust in His infinite mercy and kindness to answer all of your prayers.

3. Teachings of RAV PINCHAS OF KORITZ

3. Teachings of RAV PINCHAS OF KORITZ

[One of the primary disciples of the holy Ba’al Shem Tov and the author of Imrei Pinchas]

THE ONLY TRUE TESHUVAH IS THROUGH TORAH

Nowadays, there is no way to do complete teshuvah for our sins without Torah study. This is because some sins can be atoned only through korbanos, offerings. Teshuvah is not enough.

How do we teshuvah without korbanos today? Through Torah study. Our Sages taught, citing the verse “This is the Torah of the burnt offering, of the minchah offering, and the sin offering…” (Vayikra 7:37), that now, when we can no longer offer sacrifices, someone who is obligated to offer a sacrificial offering should study the passages of Torah that correspond to that sacrificial offering (Menachos 110a). When we study those parts of the Torah, it’s as if we brought those offerings. IMREI PINCHAS, ASERES YEMEI TESHUVAH

TESHUVAH CANNOT BEGIN WITHOUT TORAH

Rav Refael of Bershad, the disciple of Pinchas Koritzer, taught that the primary form of teshuvah is intense, increased Torah study. “Without this”, he explained, “teshuvah does not even begin!” IMREI PINCHAS, ASERES YEMEI TESHUVAH

TEMPORARY TESHUVAH: REUNITING THE PRINCE AND THE KING FOR AN HOUR

Once, after returning from a journey, Rav Pinchas Koritzer turned to his disciples and asked them, “What good is it to give mussar and help people do teshuvah if they end up returning to their former misdeeds and carry on sinning as they had before?

He answered his own rhetoric with a parable:

There was once a prince who was captured by the enemy. His father, the king, pined away, wishing only to see his son again. If it were possible to free the prince and deliver him from bondage, how wonderful that would be! However, even if that were impossible to accomplish, and they could only manage to arrange for the prince to visit his father even just for an hour, and then the prince would have to return to his prison, would the king not happily rejoice that he had even just one hour in his beloved son’s presence?

“Similary”, explained Rav Pinchas, “even if we cannot make these people repent fully and do complete teshuvah, if we can just give them a desire for repentance and feelings of regret for just one hour alone, that, too, is of great benefit.” IMREI PINCHAS, ASERES YEMEI TESHUVAH

SACRIFICE By Ariel Bar Tzadok [KosherTorah School]

SACRIFICE

By Ariel Bar Tzadok

“If you strike me down now I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.”

These words were spoken by the character ObiWan Kenobi in the movie Star Wars just before he was killed by his nemesis Darth Vader. Yet, after Vader administered the death blow, Kenobi's body vanished into thin air, leaving behind his empty cloak and a very surprised Vader.

As is known from the film, Kenobi became absorbed into what the film calls The Force, the movie's pseudo-mystical version of what for many others might be an expression of G-d. Yet, the nature of the fictitious Force is irrelevant. Kenobi's statement however fictitious, nevertheless does relate an actual spiritual reality. The righteous are far more powerful untethered from their physical bodies than when stuck within them, limited by natural forces.

Religious literature of all kinds is full of lessons about our true human essence, which we call our immortal soul. Our true soul self comes to Earth, inhabits a body for a while and then returns to the domain from which it came. This domain is said to be the domain of true reality, a dimension very much unlike our own. This higher reality is said to surround us and penetrate us, it is said to be everywhere and yet invisible and unmeasurable by physical standards. While it is not physical as we understand it, it nevertheless exists and this domain is very much populated with all types of non-human entities, religiously referred to as angels, demons and souls. In religion, we refer to this domain as the spiritual world. Just what this means and what it really is we may never know as long as we sojourn here on Earth in physical bodies. Yet, once untethered, we are reabsorbed into our source, we essentially return home.

The spiritual domain is not out there somewhere, it is right here, next to us and surrounding us. Although we physical entities cannot see those whom we call the spiritual entities of that domain, they nevertheless can see us at any time and interact with us at will. We do not see, but they do! We cannot interact with them, but they do interact with us. They watch us. They speak to us, inside our minds and inside our dreams. They can influence our choices and our behavior without our ever knowing or becoming aware of their influence.

In the movie Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi insinuated to his nemesis Vader that if he did strike him down, he would immediately be absorbed back into “The Force.” In real life, when the righteous pass away, either through natural causes or through violent means, they in turn are absorbed into the spiritual domain and acquire spiritual powers in that domain that far surpass the fictitious account portrayed in Star Wars.

In real life, G-d knows human souls. He knows them while they are in the physical body and He knows them while they are in the spiritual body. In G-d's eyes, there is not much of a difference between the two. Both are His creations. Both serve the purpose of His Divine Will. When G-d allows the righteous to be martyred, to be killed without justification or cause. He is not doing so as some nebulous form of punishment. On the contrary, He is doing the righteous a favor. Gd is taking the righteous souls out of the corruptible physical body and restoring them to the incorruptible spiritual body. In this form, the righteous become far more powerful and can easily maneuver and manipulate their enemies in ways that physical limitations could never allow them.

This is why we often see that once great physical powers in this world martyr smaller and lesser ones, the greater one itself somehow always becomes corrupted from within and eventually implodes and collapses under its own weight. While some might call this a natural course of events, others recognize the supernatural invisible undercurrent underlying all natural phenomena.

A great question asked in religious circles is why does G-d allow the righteous to suffer? Why do those who stand up for G-d and what is right always seem to get hammered down. Why does not G-d come to the defense of His righteous and smite the evil doers who seek their harm? The answer to these question can be found in scripture itself. It is written in Isaiah (55:8-9), “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," says the L-rd. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts [higher] than your thoughts.” With this Isaiah is revealing to us how G-d views our questions. For while in our eyes it appears that G-d is abandoning His righteous into the hands of evildoers, in G-d's eyes nothing could be further from the truth.

G-d is His great wisdom knows how to strengthen and refine the souls of the righteous. He knows how best to protect them and He knows how best to remove from them any and all forms of weakness. These weaknesses include attachment to physical, corruptible bodies. Sufferings refine the soul. Sufferings make the soul realize beyond any shadow of doubt that physical living in this corporeal world is not the end-all pleasurable experience some have deluded themselves into believing.

Physical suffering enables the soul to remember that there is more to life than just the physical body. Suffering enables the soul to remember itself and recognize itself as an independent entity, free from and removed from the sufferings of the flesh. As such, sufferings are a blessing to the soul that enable it to refocus on the spiritual higher reality that is ever present but blinded from our eyes due to attachment to the flesh.

Remove the desire for fleshly focus and one can develop spiritual awareness and insight. One can even begin to grasp glimpses of the spiritual domain all the while in the flesh as long as the flesh does not act as an impediment. Therefore, in His mercy, G-d sends to His beloved righteous sufferings to help them separate their attention from the illusions of the physical world and to attach their minds, their focus, on their true soul selves and the reality of the higher domain. One with such insight experiences and knows for sure that death is not a door that closes, but rather a door that opens. Death is not a curse for the righteous but rather a blessing. Death is a doorway home to the higher domain of righteous souls.

Thus when close to death the righteous say, “strike me down now and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” Not that death enables one to act in the physical world, but rather one acts in the soul world and even the smallest action in the soul world is far more powerful than anything in the physical world. In the physical world all one can do is destroy the mortal flesh. In the spiritual world, one can destroy both body and soul. In the physical world all one can do is kill the body and send it to the grave. In the spiritual world one can kill the soul and send it to Hell. Death of the body means nothing to the soul. Death of the soul means everything.

The righteous come to view death as does G-d Himself, as a door that opens to a greater world. The righteous do not fear torture and sacrifice, for both prepare them for the ultimate passage and make such passage easier and quicker. The righteous therefore seek to die as they have lived, for righteousness sake. The righteous do not fear to push upon the blades of the enemy or to block gunfire with their own bodies. For the righteous, all that matters is the cause of righteousness. Whatever the cost, it is G-d who is paying the price and our souls are His currency. The righteous are proud to live and die in the service of Heaven. For the righteous, there is no other reality.

Bad times come to refine the righteous and to train the faithful. This is why sufferings are considered a blessing in disguise. This is why even the prophet Isaiah refers to the righteous as G-d's suffering servant. This is why apparently bad things happen to good people. It is all a matter of perspective. What looks to us as something bad may very well be in the Eyes of G-d something good. All we can do is put our trust in Higher Hands and know that whatever transpires does so to serve a Higher Good. That should should comfort us as we suffer through the trials and tribulations of our daily lives. G-d is most certainly with us, the question is, are we with Him?
